HOW DO WE MIMIC AN EXISTING GARAGE FROM THE OUTSIDE & TURN IT INTO A DAYLIT SPACE WITH GENEROUS VIEWS FOR AN ARTIST ,HER FAMILY, & HER BUSINESS?

Artist Anna Sokol faced a new business challenge and looked to Latus Studio to help design a new space for her shift to an at-home model for her art class business - Art with Anna.

Working direcly with Anna and her family, we created a series of studies for the best location of the studio on their uniquely large property in Bexley, Ohio. This included a new studio on top of the existing garage and led us to the final conclusion - duplicating the footprint of the garage to its rear and opening up the space to the yard and playground.

The structure, although simple looking in design, has a double insulated wall and a concrete floor with continous insulation below. The result is extremely low operating cost AND a space of continous comfort.

The pictures on this page were intentionally taken a year after she was fully moved in. We wanted this space to be used as Anna wanted it and document it that way! It is a place of joy for kids and respite for the artist. We thoroughly enjoyed this project!
